So at the start of the trip to Ivanpah I managed a double kite 360 in a buggy and posted a video clip asking the question had it been done before.
Singular kite 360’s have been done in the buggy many times and have different names but I was not aware of multiple in a row. A couple of people had managed multiple and the most was set at 6-8. Ivanpah is a pretty smooth location with little rolling resistance so on another day when wind was blowing around 10mph with a sight peak at 15mph, using the New SONIC-FR 15m from Flysurfer I decided to give it a go.
I tacked upwind knowing I would lose downwind space quickly. Without much effort out of the second kite 360 it powered me into the second and that got the ball rolling. As you “pull” the kite round, well in this case the kite wants to fly round being so efficient, as it comes back around the wind window it powers you up and accelerates in to the next one! I managed to do 10 and as was not going out there to do most, but wanted an easy number in head to work out degrees.
The record can easily be broken, with the right space you could easily do 20+. This took a lot of downwind space and as can see in video when went to get it filmed but thought had enough space, but on video only managed 9 before hitting camp. As I had an injured back from week before didn’t want to push luck and was happy with what had achieved on video as it was always more about proof of concept than record.
I wanted to get video out there to get people to try things that seem to not be possible and give stuff a go, push their skills and the sport. It was fun for me to play with while I could not freestyle in USA and hopefully a few more people will be trying it!
